Seattle, WA – A minor earthquake shook the Kitsap Peninsula early Thursday morning, briefly rattling residents near Tracyton. The 2.9-magnitude quake struck at 5:16 a.m. local time, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.

The tremor occurred about 1 kilometer east of Tracyton at a depth of 25.5 kilometers. The shaking was weak, and no damage or injuries have been reported. Residents in Bremerton and nearby communities may have felt mild vibrations.

The U.S. Geological Survey encourages residents to report their experiences through its “Did You Feel It?” system. Early reports indicate limited impact, but seismic activity is common in the region. Washington state sits on the Cascadia Subduction Zone, making it one of the most seismically active areas in the U.S.

Seismologists monitor these smaller quakes for potential patterns that could signal larger events. While this tremor was minor, experts stress the importance of earthquake preparedness. Residents should secure heavy furniture and have emergency kits ready.
