Derby, VT – Vermont State Police are renewing calls for information today as they mark the anniversary of the disappearance of a man who went missing nearly four decades ago.
According to state police, 31-year-old Russell Bovit was last seen on May 6, 1986, and was officially reported missing on May 11, 1986. His truck was later discovered several miles from his residence, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
Investigators say reports have suggested Bovit may have been killed and possibly submerged in Lake Willoughby. However, authorities emphasize that no body has ever been recovered, and the case remains an active missing person investigation.
Despite the passage of time, officials continue to seek answers and are asking anyone with information—no matter how small—to come forward. Advances in investigative techniques and renewed public awareness can sometimes generate new leads in long-unsolved cases.
According to Vermont State Police, tips can be reported to the Derby barracks by calling 802-334-8881.
The case continues to impact the local community in Orleans County and across northern Vermont, where authorities hope someone may still hold key information that could help bring closure.
Anyone with credible information is encouraged to contact investigators directly.
