Gold Hill, OR – Authorities in southern Oregon say an arrest has been made following a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian early Saturday morning near Gold Hill.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and detectives were investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian along Access Road near the Gold Hill Fire District 3 station and Blackwell Road.
Officials said deputies responded to the area around 3:12 a.m. Saturday, May 16, after reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced the 47-year-old man dead before transport.
Investigators said the crash occurred sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. Saturday morning. Authorities initially asked for the public’s help identifying a suspect vehicle believed to have been traveling north on Access Road near Interstate 5 Exit 40 toward Blackwell Road.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed Saturday evening that deputies had made an arrest in connection with the fatal hit-and-run case. Additional details about the suspect and charges were not immediately released.
According to investigators, the involved vehicle was expected to have damage to the headlight, hood, or windshield area from the collision.
The Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team assisted with the investigation. Officials said the case remains active and ongoing.
Authorities have not publicly released the victim’s identity pending further notification and investigation.
