Riverton, WY – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across several areas of Wyoming, including East Sweetwater County, the Owl Creek and Bridger Mountains, the Bighorn Mountains, and the Absaroka Mountains, through noon MDT on Friday, April 18, 2025.

The National Weather Service warns of hazardous winter conditions with significant snowfall and gusty winds. Additional snow accumulation is expected to range between 3 and 8 inches, with some areas, particularly at higher elevations, seeing up to 12 inches of snow. Northeast winds could gust between 25 to 35 mph, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially along travel routes such as Interstate 80 from Rock Springs eastward, and areas around Wind River Canyon and Chief Joseph Pass.

The snow, which began Thursday afternoon, is expected to continue through Friday morning, making travel difficult in many parts of the state. This could impact the evening commute, especially in areas prone to sudden changes in weather, such as the Bighorn Mountains and Absaroka Mountains.

Motorists are urged to slow down, use caution, and check winter road conditions before traveling. Updates on road conditions are available from the Wyoming Department of Transportation.
