Casper, WY – A powerful winter storm is set to impact much of Wyoming starting Wednesday evening, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds to multiple regions. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for several areas, including Casper, Riverton, Lander, and the Wind River Mountains, lasting through late Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton, snow accumulations could range from 6 to 16 inches, with peaks in the southern Wind River Mountains potentially seeing up to 20 inches. Casper Mountain may receive between 10 and 15 inches, while Lander and Riverton could see 4 to 10 inches. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions, especially over Salt Pass and South Pass.
The Upper Green River Basin and surrounding foothills, including Pinedale, Big Piney, and La Barge, are forecasted to receive between 2 and 8 inches of snow, with 35 mph wind gusts possibly leading to blowing and drifting snow. The Cody Foothills, Bighorn Basin, and Johnson County are also included in the storm watch, with expected snowfall ranging from 3 to 8 inches.
