Cheyenne, WY – A break from the hot and dry weather pattern is just around the corner for Wyoming. While today and Wednesday will still be quite warm, with highs reaching 88°F and 87°F respectively, cooler temperatures are expected to arrive by Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service Cheyenne, monsoonal moisture will return midweek, increasing the chances of showers and thunderstorms from Wednesday through the weekend. Cooler temperatures will follow, with highs on Thursday and Friday stuck in the 60s and 70s.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon across the area, with potential for some storms to become strong to severe. This activity will mainly occur between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., but a few storms may linger north of US 20 into the evening hours. The primary concerns today will be lightning and gusty winds, although small to marginally severe hail is also possible.
Temperatures will drop significantly by Thursday, with highs only reaching 65°F and Friday staying around 67°F. The weekend will see a slight warm-up, with highs in the mid-70s on Saturday and low 80s by Sunday. Near-normal temperatures are expected to return early next week.
