Zion, IL – An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday following an approximately three-hour standoff in Zion after police identified him as a suspect in a series of alleged armed robberies and attempted vehicular carjackings reported over the weekend.
According to the Zion Police Department, Cleounsee Fisher, 18, was arrested in the 2200 block of Eschol Avenue on Tuesday. Police said Fisher was transported Wednesday to First Appearance Court on two approved Class X armed robbery charges and was held in secure detention following his appearance.
Police said multiple offenses occurred late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Victims and witnesses allegedly provided consistent descriptions that investigators used to connect the incidents. Another armed robbery was reported early Tuesday morning, according to the department.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video and other evidence while seeking to identify a suspect. Police said tips and information obtained through canvassing led investigators to identify Fisher as a prime suspect Tuesday.
A search warrant was obtained for the residence where Fisher was staying, according to police. Authorities said Fisher became aware of the police presence as officers were preparing a plan to serve the warrant, resulting in the standoff.
The response affected two nearby schools. School resource officers from District 6 and District 126 worked with administrators to arrange the safe dismissal of students and staff, police said.
After students had left the area, a tactical response team entered the residence and took Fisher into custody without incident. Police said a subsequent search recovered items allegedly consistent with the robbery investigations, along with property taken from some victims.
Authorities said analysis of digital and DNA evidence remains underway and additional charges are anticipated.
Fisher is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
