Wyoming Weather Alert: 75 MPH Wind Gusts Target South Pass and Dubois 11 PM–5 PM Tuesday

Dubois, WY – Drivers on Wyoming Highway 28 near Red Canyon and South Pass could encounter 75 mph wind gusts starting at 11 p.m. Monday, strong enough to shove semis and trailers off course through Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a High Wind Warning remains in effect for the Wind River Mountains East and Upper Wind River Basin from 11 p.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Tuesday. West winds of 30 to 40 mph will peak near 75 mph around South Pass, while Dubois and surrounding valley locations could see gusts between 50 and 60 mph. A High Wind Watch follows from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday as another round of strong winds develops.

In the Absaroka Mountains, gusts up to 65 mph will continue until 11 a.m. Tuesday, especially along Chief Joseph Pass on Wyoming Highway 296. The Cody Foothills, including Clark and areas along Wyoming Highway 120, will see gusts up to 60 mph through 6 a.m. Tuesday. Northeast Johnson County, including Buffalo and stretches of Interstate 90, faces a 60 percent chance of 60 mph gusts from 8 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday.

High-profile vehicles should delay travel on WY-28, WY-120 and I-90 during peak wind hours. Secure loose outdoor items and prepare for isolated power disruptions. Additional warnings may be issued as winds redevelop late Tuesday night into Wednesday evening.
