New York weather turns slick fast this morning as black ice hides on bridges and untreated streets across the city. The air feels crisp at 30 degrees, but wind chills in the 20s bite harder. Gusty northwest winds kick up leftover snow, lowering visibility in bursts and coating pavement with a thin glaze that drivers may not see until it’s too late.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Special Weather Statement remains in effect for lingering black ice and patchy blowing snow across the five boroughs and surrounding counties. Winds near 16 mph continue to gust, and any damp surface can refreeze as temperatures hover near freezing.

Road crews are monitoring elevated roadways including the FDR Drive, Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, and Cross Bronx Expressway, where flash freezing is common this time of year. Side streets in Queens and the Bronx may stay slick into late morning. Plan extra time and brake gently.

Light snow develops late tonight into Wednesday morning, with minor accumulation under a half inch. Highs climb sharply to the lower 40s Wednesday afternoon as snow mixes with rain before ending. That melt could refreeze Wednesday night as lows drop into the 30s.

Thursday brings another chance of mixed rain and snow after midday. By Friday, skies brighten and temperatures push toward 40 degrees. Early signals into next week show a steady warming trend, with above-normal temperatures hinting at early spring vibes across the region.
