Cheyenne, WY – A recent study reveals that Wyoming ranks as the most dangerous state for truck accidents in the U.S., with the highest number of fatalities per capita. According to research by T. Madden & Associates, Wyoming’s rate of truck crashes and fatalities per 100,000 residents is significantly above the national average.

The study analyzed data from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, ranking Wyoming at the top, with 181 crashes per 100,000 residents. The state is followed by Arkansas, Missouri, and Louisiana. Wyoming’s rural roads, harsh weather conditions, and extensive highway stretches contribute to its elevated crash rates.

The report highlights a consistent rise in truck-related accidents in Wyoming from 2019 to 2023. In 2023 alone, the state recorded 35 fatalities, 411 injuries, and 1,809 crashes involving commercial vehicles. Terance Madden, the firm’s senior managing partner, emphasized the importance of stricter safety measures and better driver training to prevent these incidents.

The full report, along with the state-by-state rankings, is available online.
