DuPage County, IL – An active algal bloom has been confirmed at Stonewort Pond, within Cricket Creek Forest Preserve. This bloom, typical in warmer weather, can pose risks to pets, children, and people with weak immune systems.
According to the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, exposure to the algae can cause illness if ingested or inhaled. The bloom, marked by scum resembling spilled paint, can appear blue, green, or brown.
Residents are advised to avoid touching the algae and to keep pets away from the water. If contact occurs, wash exposed skin or pet fur immediately to prevent potential health issues.
