Cheyenne, WY – Residents of Cheyenne should prepare for a weekend of extreme weather as monsoon moisture and fire risks converge.
According to the US National Weather Service in Cheyenne, monsoon moisture will return briefly on Friday and Saturday, bringing scattered to numerous storms during the afternoon and evening. These storms are expected to produce torrential rains, leading to potential flooding concerns on both days.
Additionally, a Red Flag Warning and Fire Weather Watch are in effect for Thursday afternoon until 9 PM. Hot temperatures, low relative humidity, and gusty winds of 30 to 35 mph will create critical fire weather conditions. The Weather Service advises against outdoor burning as fires could spread rapidly.
On Friday, temperatures will reach a high of 84°F with a low of 61°F, and storm activity is expected in the afternoon and evening. Saturday will see a high of 85°F and a low of 58°F, with similar storm conditions. Sunday will be partly cloudy with temperatures ranging from 60°F to 86°F.
The early part of next week will bring clear skies, with highs of 92°F on Monday and 94°F on Tuesday, and lows in the upper 50s. Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions for both flooding and fire risks.
