Cheyenne, WY — Residents across southeast Wyoming are bracing for dangerous weather conditions today as extreme cold and powerful winds persist. Wind chills as low as -45°F and gusts up to 75 mph are expected, making travel hazardous, particularly along I-80 and I-25.
According to the National Weather Service, a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. today, with a High Wind Warning lasting into the evening. Frostbite can occur within minutes in these conditions, and strong crosswinds may make driving treacherous for high-profile vehicles. Travelers are urged to delay trips if possible and dress in multiple warm layers if venturing outdoors.
Looking ahead, temperatures will climb slightly Wednesday, reaching the low 30s, but light snow is expected by the afternoon. Winds will remain strong, reaching 30 mph, reducing visibility on major roadways. Thursday and Friday bring sunnier skies and milder temperatures, with highs nearing 40°F. However, another snow system is likely to return Saturday, with highs dropping back to the mid-teens.
Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts closely as conditions may shift. Keep pets indoors, check on vulnerable neighbors, and ensure outdoor animals have adequate shelter, food, and water.
