Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Slippery roads and gusty winds are impacting the Friday morning commute across south central Wisconsin, with up to 3 inches of snow and a light glaze of ice expected before noon.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon CST for Dane, Columbia, Green, Lafayette, Marquette, Green Lake, Sauk and Iowa counties. A previous Winter Storm Warning for Sauk and Iowa counties has been canceled, but mixed precipitation continues. Snow totals may reach 3 inches, with ice accumulations around a light glaze. Wind gusts could reach 45 mph.

Bridges and overpasses will become slick first.

Freezing rain and sleet early this morning are coating untreated roads, including stretches of Interstate 90/94 near Madison, Highway 12 toward Baraboo and Highway 151 through Dodgeville. Gusty winds may bring down small tree branches and create brief visibility reductions in heavier bursts of snow.

What residents should do now: Slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check Wisconsin 511 for current road conditions before departing.

Precipitation tapers late this morning with gradual improvement expected toward midday, though slick spots may linger into early afternoon. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon CST Friday.
