Milwaukee, WI – Residents in Milwaukee and surrounding areas are bracing for challenging travel conditions today as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Lake-effect snow is expected to deliver accumulations of up to 3 inches in Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties, with the heaviest snowfall predicted along I-94 and southward through Kenosha.
According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to peak between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m., impacting both the morning and early afternoon commutes. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution on roadways, as blowing snow and 25-30 mph wind gusts may cause reduced visibility and slippery conditions.
The advisory also warns of drifting snow that could impact travel along major routes, including I-94. Meteorologists recommend allowing extra time for travel, keeping headlights on, and avoiding unnecessary trips if possible. Temperatures are expected to hover around 28°F today, with conditions improving by late afternoon.
The rest of the week brings calmer weather, with partly sunny skies Tuesday and highs near 24°F. Overnight lows will dip to 12°F, with light winds from the northwest. Wednesday remains cold and partly sunny, with a high of 21°F and minimal wind. By Thursday, conditions are expected to warm slightly, reaching 26°F under sunny skies.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated on road conditions by checking 511wi.gov and monitoring further updates from local weather services.
