Kenosha, WI – The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warning about scammers impersonating law enforcement officers. The scammers demand gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers, threatening arrest if victims refuse.

According to the department, residents are being targeted by calls claiming a loved one is in jail or missed a court date. Scammers demand payments to avoid jail time or resolve court issues. Sheriff’s officials urge residents to verify claims by contacting the jail directly to confirm whether someone is in custody.

Some scammers have even cloned official phone numbers. The Sheriff’s Department stresses never to trust phone calls demanding money or payment. Always call your local law enforcement office independently to verify.

Sheriff David W. Zoerner reminded the community that officers will never ask for payment in any form. For questions or to verify suspicious calls, residents can contact the Sheriff’s Department at (262) 605-5100.
