Duluth, Minnesota – Drivers and residents across central Minnesota and northern Wisconsin should brace for moderate rain beginning Thursday night, especially in areas south of US Highway 2, where totals may exceed one inch by Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, there’s an 80% chance of at least moderate rainfall in southern zones, with a 50% chance of more than an inch south of MN/WI Highway 70. Light to moderate rain (60–70% chance) is likely along US Hwy 2, while far northern areas, including International Falls and Ely, face a 30–50% chance of light precipitation.
Communities from Hinckley to Ashland could see between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain, with lighter totals further north. While flash flooding risk remains low, ponding on roads is possible through Friday morning, particularly in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
Travelers should slow down in wet conditions and watch for localized water on roads. Keep headlights on during rain and avoid driving through standing water.
Rain is expected to taper off Friday afternoon, but additional advisories may follow if the system shifts.
