Richmond, VA – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across portions of Virginia, with icy and snowy conditions expected to create hazardous travel through Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, the advisory covers areas including Charles City, Gloucester, Mathews, James City, Northampton, York, Brunswick, Prince George, Dinwiddie, and Mecklenburg counties. Snow and sleet accumulations up to an inch, along with ice buildup, could make roads—especially bridges and overpasses—dangerous overnight and during the Wednesday morning commute.
Drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speeds, and allow extra travel time. Ice accumulations range from a light glaze in eastern Virginia to up to two-tenths of an inch in Mecklenburg and Dinwiddie counties, increasing the risk of slick roads.
The advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday for eastern counties and 8 a.m. for southern areas, including Brunswick and Prince George. Commuters should check local road conditions by dialing 511 and prepare for delays.
Officials advise residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay alert to further weather updates.
