Chicago, IL – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for northeast Illinois until 1 p.m. Thursday, bringing snow and gusty winds.

The National Weather Service (NWS) expects snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches with snowfall rates approaching an inch per hour during the morning. Winds may gust as high as 45 mph, potentially reaching 50 mph later in the day.

According to the NWS, hazardous conditions could significantly affect the Thursday morning commute. Slippery roads and reduced visibility are likely as snow intensifies during rush hour. Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and prepare for delays.

The advisory covers McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage, Kendall, Cook, and Will counties. Snowfall is expected to taper off by early afternoon, but high winds could cause drifting snow and create additional challenges for travelers.
