Las Vegas, NV – A powerful winter storm is set to impact the higher elevations of Nevada and California midweek, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds to the region. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Spring Mountains, Sheep Range, and parts of the Sierra and White Mountains, with hazardous travel conditions expected from Wednesday evening through late Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Las Vegas, snowfall totals could range from 6 to 12 inches above 7,000 feet and 3 to 5 inches above 5,000 feet in the Spring Mountains. In the Sierra, snowfall could reach 1 to 2 feet above 8,000 feet, with 6 to 12 inches expected above 6,000 feet in the White Mountains. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph may lead to dangerous driving conditions, blowing snow, and reduced visibility.

Residents and travelers should prepare for hazardous road conditions, particularly in mountainous regions. The NWS advises carrying winter survival gear, checking road conditions before traveling, and considering alternate plans if heading into affected areas.

Officials warn of potential impacts, including slick roads, broken tree branches, and dangerous hiking and camping conditions. Those in the region should stay updated with local forecasts and exercise caution while traveling in higher elevations.
