San Francisco, CA – A powerful atmospheric river is set to impact California starting Wednesday, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and significant mountain snowfall. The system will move inland through Thursday before spreading into the Intermountain West by Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, the Sierra Nevada and northern California mountains will likely see wind gusts up to 60 mph and heavy snow accumulations, creating hazardous travel conditions. Snow levels will drop on Thursday, increasing the risk of dangerous mountain passes.

Flooding concerns are also high, as rainfall rates may exceed 0.5 inches per hour. This could lead to flash flooding, debris flows over burn scars, and hazardous driving conditions due to standing water.

By late week, the storm is expected to shift eastward, impacting the Intermountain West and Northern Plains with snow and strong winds. Officials urge residents to stay updated on forecasts and prepare for potential travel disruptions.
