Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow and High Winds Hit Pennsylvania, West Virginia Until 7AM Saturday

Pittsburgh, PA – A winter storm warning remains in effect for portions of southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, with heavy snowfall and gusty winds forecast to create dangerous conditions through Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh, areas in the higher elevations of Westmoreland and Fayette counties in Pennsylvania, as well as parts of Monongalia, Preston, and Tucker counties in West Virginia, can expect snow accumulations ranging from 6 to 13 inches. Strong winds, with gusts up to 35 mph, are expected to worsen travel conditions.

In eastern Tucker County, West Virginia, snow totals could reach between 12 and 18 inches, with wind gusts peaking at 50 mph. The NWS warns of near white-out conditions, downed tree limbs, and possible power outages in this region. Hazardous conditions are expected to impact both Friday commutes, with travel potentially becoming impossible in some areas.

Residents are urged to delay travel if possible and prepare for potential disruptions. Drivers who must travel should carry a winter storm kit with essential supplies, including blankets, flashlights, and tire chains.

This warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Saturday for Pennsylvania and until 7 p.m. EST Saturday for eastern Tucker County, West Virginia.
