Charleston, WV – A winter storm warning remains in effect for multiple counties in West Virginia as heavy snow and high winds create hazardous travel conditions. The warnings, issued by the National Weather Service, are expected to last through Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), areas such as Northwest Randolph, Southeast Fayette, and Southeast Nicholas counties could see additional snowfall accumulations ranging from 2 to 13 inches, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Conditions in Barbour, Upshur, and Northwest Webster counties are forecasted to improve slightly by 6 p.m. Friday, but snowfall of up to 8 inches is still expected.

In the higher elevations, including Northwest Pocahontas and Southeast Randolph counties, snowfall could reach up to 20 inches. Winds gusting up to 50 mph are also likely to cause power outages due to downed trees and power lines.

The NWS warns that travel could be treacherous, with visibility dropping below a quarter mile in some areas. Commuters should plan for delays and ensure emergency supplies are in their vehicles.
