Tallahassee, FL — A rare winter storm is set to bring ice and snow to portions of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, creating hazardous travel conditions through Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm will begin impacting the region Tuesday afternoon and persist until Wednesday at noon. Snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch are expected. Affected areas include the Big Bend and Panhandle regions of Florida, southwest Georgia, and southeastern Alabama.

The NWS warns of slippery roads and dangerous driving conditions, particularly during the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Counties such as Gadsden, Leon, Decatur, and Houston are under the advisory.

Residents are advised to avoid travel if possible and to prepare emergency kits with flashlights, food, and water in their vehicles. Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing, exacerbating the risk of icy roads.

For updated road conditions, officials recommend calling 511 or checking local transportation department websites. This storm marks an unusual winter event for the Southeast, underscoring the importance of preparedness in areas unaccustomed to significant snow and ice.
