Jacksonville, FL – A rare winter storm is set to bring snow and ice to portions of southeast Georgia and northeast Florida starting Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, the Winter Storm Warning will take effect at 4 p.m. Tuesday for southeast Georgia and 7 p.m. for northeast Florida, lasting until 1 p.m. Wednesday. Expected conditions include up to one inch of snow and sleet, along with ice accumulations ranging from one-tenth to a quarter of an inch.
The warning covers a wide area, including cities such as Douglas, Waycross, Jesup, Fernandina Beach, and Gainesville. Slippery road conditions are anticipated, with significant impacts likely for the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Power outages and tree damage are also possible due to ice buildup.
