Charleston, SC – A winter storm warning has been issued for southeastern South Carolina and southeastern Georgia from 5 p.m. Tuesday to noon Wednesday, with up to two inches of snow expected in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, hazardous conditions will likely impact travel during the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. The warning covers numerous counties, including Charleston, Beaufort, and Savannah, where roads, bridges, and overpasses may become slick and hazardous. Coastal counties may also experience up to one-quarter inch of ice accumulation.

Residents are advised to avoid travel if possible and prepare for potential power outages. If travel is necessary, drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution and carry a winter emergency kit with supplies such as blankets, flashlights, and water.

The NWS has highlighted an enhanced risk of sleet for areas inland of U.S. Route 17 in South Carolina. Coastal cities, including Charleston, Hilton Head Island, and Savannah, should brace for slippery conditions.

Officials recommend staying indoors until conditions improve and dressing in multiple layers if venturing outside to reduce risks of frostbite or hypothermia. For updated road conditions, call 511 in your area.
