Delaware – Warm air is surging into Wilmington this afternoon, with sunshine pushing temperatures into the mid-80s and setting up a quick shift to storm chances by evening.

According to the National Weather Service, Wilmington Airport is climbing to around 86°F today with mostly sunny skies before a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms develops later in the day. Some storms could bring brief heavy rain and reduced visibility for drivers.

The heat builds further into midweek. Highs reach near 90°F Wednesday and hold close to 89°F Thursday across Wilmington, Newark, and nearby parts of southeastern Pennsylvania. Roads like I-95, I-295, and Route 202 will feel noticeably warmer during peak afternoon hours, with pavement heat rising quickly under full sun.

Storm chances ease briefly Wednesday, then return late week. By Friday afternoon, rain chances increase to 40%, which could lead to slick conditions and slower travel during the commute. Periods of showers may create ponding on roadways and reduced visibility.

Plan ahead if traveling later today. Keep an eye on the sky and allow extra time during evening hours when storms begin to develop. Conditions may shift quickly after sunset with scattered downpours.

Looking ahead, a cooler trend arrives by Saturday with highs dropping to the upper 70s and drier air returning, offering relief from both heat and humidity.

Five Day Outlook for Wilmington, DE
Today: Mostly sunny, high near 86°F
Tonight: Chance of storms, low around 65°F
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high near 90°F
Thursday: Partly sunny, high near 89°F
Friday: Chance of showers, high near 81°F
