Lockport Township, IL – In a swift response to a tragic incident, the Will County Sheriff’s Office has charged Jaron D. Nabors Jr., 24, with the murder of James H. Berry, 52, in an unsettling event that shocked the Lockport Township community. The arrest was announced by Sheriff Mike Kelley, marking a critical breakthrough in the investigation.
The fatal shooting occurred last month on February 8th when deputies were called to a distressing scene on Riverview Avenue, finding Berry and another man grievously wounded. The assailant, reportedly identified as Nabors, reportedly ambushed Berry as he was preparing for a birthday celebration.
Authorities captured Nabors on Wednesday in Joliet Township. A critical piece of evidence, a Glock 34 9mm handgun found with Nabors, was reportedly forensically linked to the crime. This decisive action by the Will County Sheriff’s Office underscores their commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
Nabors is now awaiting trial at the Will County Adult Detention Facility, with the community awaiting justice in this harrowing case.
