Berwyn, IL – In a routine response that took an unexpected turn, Berwyn Police officers discovered two individuals deceased in their home on the 1900 block of East Ave.

The incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon when local law enforcement were alerted by a concerned hospital worker. The call for a welfare check was meant to ensure the well-being of the family of a hospital inpatient. Upon their arrival, officers faced silence, with multiple attempts to contact the residents inside yielding no response. Forced to enter the premises to ascertain the situation, officers located Nina Reyes, aged 91, and Peter Reyes, aged 49, both unresponsive. Initial observations by the responding officers did not suggest any foul play involved in the deaths.

The subsequent examination by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed that both Nina and Peter Reyes died of natural causes. This conclusion brings a somber resolution to the case, albeit one without suspicion of criminal activity.
