Chicago, IL – Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) unveiled a transformative near-$1 billion plan, aimed at revamping Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln and Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill.

This initiative, part of Pritzker’s FY25 budget proposal, targets modernizing the facilities to tackle decades of deferred maintenance and enhance safety for both staff and inmates. “These investments… save taxpayers hundreds of millions in deferred maintenance costs from years of neglect,” stated Pritzker, underscoring the plan’s focus on infrastructure improvement and fiscal prudence.

Stateville is slated for demolition and reconstruction on its current site, while discussions are ongoing for Logan’s future plans. These efforts are expected to yield $34 million in annual savings from reduced operational costs. IDOC’s Acting Director, Latoya Hughes, highlighted this move as crucial for the safety and well-being of all involved, marking a significant step towards modernizing the state’s correctional landscape.
