Frankfort, IL – Frankfort police are warning residents this week about a parking lot scam targeting Good Samaritans across Will County, involving fraudulent donation requests and unauthorized credit card charges.
According to a Monday alert issued by the Frankfort Police Department, individuals posing as charity workers have been approaching people in parking lots and requesting donations via credit card. Victims allege that after providing their card information, they were charged more than agreed or saw additional unauthorized transactions appear later.
While officers praised the community’s willingness to support charitable causes, they stressed the importance of protecting personal financial information and verifying the legitimacy of any organization before donating.
“We love seeing our community lend a helping hand,” the department said in its statement. “But scammers are getting bolder.”
Frankfort police urge residents who encounter suspicious donation solicitations to contact the department directly for verification. They also encouraged the public to share the warning to help prevent further incidents across Will County.
Be cautious, verify before you give, and report anything that feels off.
