Will County, IL: Joliet Township Stabbing Suspect Captured Hours Later in Livingston County

Joliet Township, IL – A Joliet man was arrested Sunday night in Livingston County after allegedly stabbing a person inside a Joliet Township home and fleeing the scene, authorities confirmed.

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 7:42 p.m. to the 100 block of Jessie Street following a report of a stabbing. The initial call indicated the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Justin M. Summlion, was armed and possibly still inside the residence. Upon arrival, deputies found that the suspect had already fled, and discovered a victim with stab wounds to the leg and chest who was drifting in and out of consciousness.

Deputies provided immediate medical aid until emergency responders from the East Joliet Fire Protection District arrived. The victim was transported to Silver Cross Hospital for further treatment.

Investigators quickly identified Summlion as the suspect and issued a statewide alert through the Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network (ISPERN). Around 10:40 p.m., Livingston County deputies located and arrested him. He was taken to the Will County Public Safety Complex for questioning and later transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Summlion has been initially charged with domestic battery (misdemeanor), aggravated domestic battery (felony), felon in possession of a weapon (felony), aggravated battery involving great bodily harm (felony), and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (felony).

Sheriff Mike Kelley credited both the East Joliet Fire Protection District and Livingston County deputies for their rapid and professional response in locating the suspect and assisting the victim.
