The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced major changes for westbound Interstate 80 starting Monday, Dec. 16, in Minooka, Joliet, and New Lenox. The changes are part of ongoing reconstruction efforts that will continue through fall 2025.
Starting at 9 p.m. Monday, lane closures will affect westbound I-80 between Interstate 55 and Ridge Road. At least one lane will remain open during the work. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Tuesday when a new traffic pattern takes effect.
Westbound I-80 traffic will temporarily shift to the eastbound side, separated by a barrier wall, before returning to its original lanes near Ridge Road. These changes allow for the complete rebuilding of westbound lanes.
Drivers should expect delays, lane shifts, and overnight closures. IDOT urges motorists to follow posted speed limits, stay alert in work zones, and allow extra time for commutes.
