Joliet, IL – A 15-year-old male has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old boy in Joliet earlier this week, according to local authorities.
According to a news release issued by the Joliet Police Department on Tuesday, the charges stem from a June 2 shooting in the 300 block of Des Plaines Street. The juvenile suspect faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. Investigators say the two teens knew each other and were allegedly involved in an ongoing personal dispute. Detectives believe the suspect shot the victim twice during a confrontation.
The suspect was taken into custody on Monday in the 600 block of Benton Street. Police noted he was already facing separate charges of aggravated battery, mob action, and disorderly conduct from an earlier May 6 incident. After questioning the teen about the June 2 homicide, the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the additional charges.
The suspect was processed at the Joliet Police Department and later transferred to the River Valley Justice Center.
Police Chief Bill Evans expressed condolences to the victim’s family, stating, “There are no words that can ease the pain of losing a child, but I want this loved one’s family to know that they have the full support of the Joliet Police Department during this incredibly painful time.”
The investigation remains active. Authorities are continuing to pursue leads, and no additional arrests have been made. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Joliet Police Department Investigations Division at 815-724-3020 or submit tips anonymously via Will County Crime Stoppers at 800-323-6734 or crimestoppersofwillcounty.org.
