Will County, IL – As extreme temperatures hit Will County this week, with the heat index rising above 100° for the next several days, area police are reminding residents about the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles.

According to the Joliet Police Department, local law and city ordinances strictly prohibit anyone over 16 from leaving a child under 13 alone in a vehicle. Ordinance 19-4 mandates a minimum $300 fine for violations, potentially leading to the arrest of the child’s guardian. The full ordinance is available for review here.
