Will County, IL Offers Full Slate of Nature Programs for June 2025

Will County, IL – The Forest Preserve District of Will County has announced a diverse schedule of outdoor and recreational programs for the latter half of June, offering residents a chance to kayak, fish, bike, and learn about local nature.

A full lineup of activities is planned for the weeks of June 16 and June 23. According to the Forest Preserve District of Will County, those interested can find more details and register for events online through the district’s Event Calendar at ReconnectWithNature.org.

The offerings kick off with BYOB Bingo from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at Prairie Bluff Preserve in Crest Hill. This free event for adults 21 and older provides a social evening where attendees can bring their own refreshments and compete for prizes. For those looking to learn a new skill, Kayak Kollege will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at Lake Chaminwood Preserve in Channahon. The workshop, which costs $35, will be led by certified instructors and is open to individuals aged 12 and older, with registration closing on June 19.

Bird watchers can enjoy Lake Renwick Migratory Bird Viewing from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 21, at the Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve. Later that day, from 6 to 10 p.m., Fishing Under the Stars offers a free, family-friendly night fishing opportunity at Hidden Lakes Trout Farm in Bolingbrook.

The following week, from June 24 to 29, the public is invited to participate in Fishing for Trash at Hidden Lakes Trout Farm to help maintain the preserve’s cleanliness. Additional events include a combined Casting and Kayaking program, a TGIF Bike Ride in Frankfort, a Kids Fishing Derby, and a Museum Campus Day in Romeoville.

  • Discovery Isle – Animal Architects: Thursday, June 26, 1-3 p.m. at Isle a la Cache Museum, Romeoville. Free for all ages.
  • TGIF Bike Ride: Friday, June 27, 6-7:30 p.m. at Old Plank Road Trail, Frankfort. Free for ages 16+.
  • Kids Fishing Derby: Saturday, June 28, with two sessions at Hidden Lakes Trout Farm. $5 per person for ages 5-15.
  • Museum Campus Day: Saturday, June 28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Isle a la Cache Museum. Free for all ages.
