DuPage County, Ill. — On Tuesday, June 10, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office announced that it had received a $3,000 donation from the DuPage County Bar Association (DCBA). The generous gift was given in memory of Terry Jessen, a Volunteer in Police Service (VIPS) of the Sheriff’s Office.
The donation was to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 109. The FOP Lodge 109 is an organization dedicated to supporting the Sheriff’s Office employees and other charitable initiatives within the DuPage County community.
Terry Jessen, who passed away in February 2025, was a long-time member of the Lombard Citizens Police Academy, DuPage County Sheriff’s Citizen Academy and VIPS. Jessen was actively involved with the Lombard Citizens Police Academy for 20 years and frequently volunteered at events such as Shop with a Cop.
The VIPS Program is a Citizen Corps program designed to aid the work of state and local law enforcement through volunteers. It is one of several volunteer programs put in place following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 that provide the community with more ways to support law enforcement and first responders.
Sheriff James Mendrick, Undersheriff Eddie Moore and FOP Lodge 109 President Marco Bottigliero of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office accepted the donation. Terry’s daughter, Elizabeth Holtquist, and granddaughter, Brooke Holtquist, were also in attendance. DCBA President Charles Wentworth and DCBA Executive Director Robert Rupp presented the donation.
