Wichita, Kansas – A refreshing change is on the way for central, south-central and southeast Kansas as thunderstorms move out Friday morning, allowing cooler air to settle into the region behind a passing cold front. Saturday is expected to bring the most comfortable temperatures of the weekend, with many communities staying in the 80s through the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, showers and thunderstorms are expected to linger into Friday morning before gradually exiting the area. High temperatures Friday will still reach 90 to 97 degrees, but noticeably cooler air will arrive by Saturday.
Saturday’s highs are forecast between 82 and 89 degrees, making it the coolest day of the stretch. Wichita is expected to reach 87 degrees, while Hutchinson, Russell and Great Bend top out near 89 degrees. Pratt and Harper are forecast to reach 90 degrees, with cooler readings in eastern Kansas, including 83 degrees in Emporia, Chanute and Topeka.
The cooler, drier air will continue into Sunday under mostly sunny skies, with afternoon highs ranging from 86 to 92 degrees. Temperatures begin a gradual warming trend Monday, climbing back into the upper 80s to middle 90s, but conditions remain mostly dry.
Residents should remain alert for any lingering thunderstorms Friday morning before enjoying a much more comfortable weekend for outdoor activities. Additional forecast updates will be issued if morning storms linger longer than expected.
