Newport, North Carolina – Residents across eastern North Carolina can expect another pleasant summer day with abundant sunshine, warm temperatures and no widespread rain as a stretch of dry weather continues through the weekend. The quiet pattern offers favorable conditions for travel, outdoor work and trips to the beach before storm chances increase next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, high temperatures this afternoon will climb into the mid to upper 80s across much of the region, with dry weather expected through Saturday. Forecasters say showers and thunderstorms are not expected to return until sometime next week as moisture gradually increases.
Communities across the Crystal Coast and Inner Banks will enjoy warm but seasonable conditions. Highs are forecast around 89 degrees in Jacksonville and Ocracoke, 88 in Morehead City, Havelock, Cedar Island and Frisco, 87 in Greenville, Kinston, New Bern, Aurora and Swanquarter, 86 in Columbia, Belhaven, Plymouth and Hamilton, and 85 in Rodanthe.
The combination of sunshine and moderate humidity will make for excellent conditions at area beaches, parks and waterways, though residents should still stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and limit prolonged exposure during the warmest part of the afternoon.
The dry pattern is expected to hold through Saturday before a more unsettled weather pattern develops next week with increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service will provide additional updates as those rain chances become better defined.
