Wheaton, Ill. — The Cosley Zoo Run for the Animals 5K, 10K and Kids’ ½ Mile is scheduled for Saturday, June 7. The City of Wheaton posted road closures for the event on June 2.
From approximately 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., the following roads will be temporarily closed. Sections of Main Street, Wheaton Avenue, Wakeman Avenue, College Avenue and Seminary Avenue will have the longest portions closed. Most side streets that cross with Wheaton Avenue and Main Street will be marked off as well, including Oak Avenue, Forest Avenue, Harrison Avenue and Franklin Street. Drivers should expect roads around Wheaton College and Northside Park to be blocked off. The road closures are approximately north of College Avenue and Seminary Avenue, east of West Street, South of Wakeman Avenue and west of President Street. A map of the road closures can be viewed online.
During the race, officers will be present to assist and direct traffic. The city of Wheaton has asked residents including cyclists and motorists not to move the barricades. Drivers should expect traffic delays and seek alternative routes.
The Wheaton Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission is providing a free Bike Valet service for participants in the Cosley Zoo Run. From 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., runners can ride to the Longfellow Elementary schoolyard to leave their bike instead of navigating road closures and parking. Race participants can retrieve their bike after the race.
The City of Wheaton also posted road closures for Cream of Wheaton, happening downtown from Thursday, June 5 through Sunday, June 8.
