Pittsburgh, PA – A fast-moving winter system will bring snow to western Pennsylvania on Wednesday before turning into heavy rain and possible thunderstorms by Thursday. Residents should prepare for slick roads, changing conditions, and potential localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service, light snow will begin Wednesday afternoon, with accumulations of up to an inch possible. By Wednesday night, warmer air will push into the region, causing the snow to transition into rain. Roads, particularly on I-376, I-79, and Route 28, may become slippery during the evening commute.

Thursday will bring a dramatic shift, with temperatures rising to 56°F and rain continuing throughout the day. Thunderstorms are also possible, increasing the risk of ponding on roadways and flooding in low-lying areas, especially near the Monongahela River. Rainfall amounts could exceed an inch in some locations, making morning and evening travel hazardous.

By Thursday night, the rain will taper off as colder air moves in. Overnight lows will drop to around 30°F, possibly causing refreezing on bridges and overpasses. Friday will see a return to drier conditions, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 37°F.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday will bring another chance of rain and snow before 1 p.m., followed by mostly cloudy conditions and a high of 48°F. Saturday night’s temperatures will fall to the low 30s, with occasional rain showers. Sunday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with highs in the upper 40s.

Motorists should drive cautiously, especially during Wednesday night’s snowfall and Thursday’s rain. Stay updated with the latest forecasts, and prepare for changing road conditions throughout the week.
