Buffalo, NY – A cool stretch will continue across western New York through midweek before a notable warmup brings above-average temperatures heading into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Daytime highs from Tuesday, May 12, through Thursday, May 14, are expected to remain below seasonal averages across Erie, Niagara, and Monroe counties. Temperatures will generally range from the upper 50s to mid-60s during the day, with chilly overnight lows dipping into the 30s and 40s.

Cities including Buffalo, Rochester, Batavia, and Jamestown will all experience the cooler pattern, with some inland areas seeing morning temperatures near the low 30s early in the period.

By Friday, May 15, a pattern shift begins, allowing temperatures to rebound closer to normal, with highs climbing into the upper 60s and low 70s under improving conditions.

The warming trend accelerates into the weekend, with highs reaching the 70s Saturday, May 16, and climbing into the upper 70s to mid-80s by Sunday, May 17, and Monday, May 18. Some areas inland could see temperatures push into the mid-80s, marking a significant change from the cooler start to the week.

Forecasters say this shift is tied to a broader change in weather patterns, bringing warmer air into the region after several days of below-average conditions.

Residents should prepare for fluctuating temperatures this week, with a need for jackets early on before transitioning to much warmer, late-spring conditions by the weekend.
