Buffalo, NY – Severe thunderstorms are set to hit western New York today, with significant risks of large hail and damaging winds. The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a weather alert, indicating that these storms will become more intense in the afternoon and persist into the evening. This activity is expected along lake breeze boundaries ahead of a cold front.

According to the National Weather Service, the storms are predicted to reach their peak intensity between 3 PM and 10 PM. The region is under a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) for severe storms today, primarily posing threats of damaging wind gusts, heavy rain, and isolated large hail. The highest probability for measurable rainfall is anticipated during this period, especially in areas including Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Rochester, and Jamestown.

The current weather forecast shows a high of 81°F today with a 65% chance of thunderstorms. Once the storms pass, western New York can expect a stretch of pleasant weather. Thursday will see sunny skies with a high of 77°F, followed by similarly sunny conditions through the weekend. Highs are projected to reach 80°F on Friday, 84°F on Saturday, and 87°F on Sunday.

Next week, the area will continue to experience warm temperatures, with a slight chance of showers returning by Tuesday. Monday’s forecast predicts partly cloudy skies with a high of 86°F, and Tuesday may bring a 40% chance of rain with temperatures peaking at 86°F.
