South Haven, Mich. – A narrow band of lake-effect snow is creating slick stretches across Van Buren County early Monday, just in time for the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. Monday for Van Buren County. An additional inch of snow is possible, with locally higher amounts in persistent lake-effect bands.

While totals remain light, conditions can change quickly along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Roads such as Interstate 196 near South Haven and M-43 toward Bangor may shift from wet pavement to snow-covered within a few miles as bands move inland. Visibility can also drop rapidly under heavier bursts.

The Michigan Department of Transportation urges drivers to slow down and remain alert for sudden changes in road conditions. Even minor accumulations can create slick bridges and untreated secondary roads, especially with temperatures near freezing.

Snow showers will gradually weaken by early afternoon, but motorists should expect patchy slick spots through midday as lake-effect bands taper off.
