Grand Rapids, MI – Rain will transition to snow early Thursday morning across western Lower Michigan, bringing minor accumulations and potential travel hazards.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Grand Rapids, the heaviest snow bands are expected around sunrise, with most areas seeing light accumulations. Some parts of northwest Lower Michigan may receive up to an inch of snow. Strong northwest winds between 20 to 30 mph will accompany the snowfall, further reducing visibility.
Commuters should prepare for slippery roads and potential delays, especially in areas where temperatures drop quickly. The NWS advises drivers to exercise caution, as wet pavement from rain could quickly turn icy as temperatures fall overnight.
While snowfall totals are expected to remain low, even a light dusting can create hazardous driving conditions. Road crews will be monitoring and treating major routes as needed, but secondary roads may remain slick during the morning rush.
This late-season snow comes as Michigan transitions into spring, though occasional snowfall is not uncommon for the region in March. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather alerts and allow extra travel time Thursday morning.
