Springfield, MO – A rapid warm-up will send temperatures soaring toward 90 degrees by Thursday afternoon, creating a sharp swing that could impact outdoor plans and early-season heat safety across Missouri.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, highs will climb steadily from the 60s Monday into the mid-70s Tuesday, then jump into the 70s and mid-80s by Wednesday. The peak arrives Thursday, when much of southern Missouri, including Springfield, Branson, and Joplin, could reach between 81 and 90 degrees—well above seasonal norms.
The sudden warmth may increase fire danger and strain those sensitive to heat, especially with several consecutive days of rising temperatures. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable individuals.
A cold front is expected to move through late Thursday into early Friday, bringing a sharp cooldown. Highs will fall back into the low 50s to low 60s by Friday, creating a noticeable temperature drop in less than 24 hours.
The dramatic shift from near 90 degrees to the 50s could catch some off guard, and additional updates are expected as the timing of the front becomes clearer late this week.
