Grand Junction, Colorado – Fall is stalling out across western Colorado as 90° heat holds strong, but a dramatic shift arrives Thursday night with the return of storms.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, isolated afternoon thunderstorms will redevelop across the San Juan Mountains Thursday, becoming more widespread Friday and Saturday. While Grand Junction stays dry Thursday, rain chances increase to 30% by Friday afternoon, especially along I-70 and into the high country.

Winds will remain light, but outflow from nearby storms could stir up dust, trigger brief wind gusts, and reduce visibility. Lightning and localized flooding in canyon zones remain possible, especially in areas that received late summer rain. Drivers should monitor road conditions near US-550 and CO-141 through the weekend.

High temperatures will hover near 92°F Thursday before dropping into the low 80s by Saturday. While no formal warnings are in place yet, residents are urged to stay weather-aware, especially those camping, hiking, or commuting across mountain routes.

Skies will begin clearing late Sunday, with dry conditions expected early next week. Spotter activation isn’t expected, but updates are likely if rainfall intensifies or lightning becomes more widespread.
