Charleston, WV – A stretch of warm, mainly dry weather will continue across West Virginia through Thursday before a more active pattern returns with increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, dry conditions and a warming trend will dominate through Thursday as temperatures steadily climb across the Mountain State. Lowland communities are expected to see highs in the mid-80s to low 90s Tuesday, warming into the upper 80s to mid-90s by Wednesday and Thursday.

Mountain communities will also warm significantly, with afternoon highs ranging from the upper 70s and 80s Tuesday to the 80s and lower 90s by midweek.

Cities including Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg, Beckley, Clarksburg, Morgantown, Elkins, and Martinsburg can expect several days of sunshine and increasing humidity before the forecast begins to change.

The next opportunity for rain arrives Friday, when isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop. Forecast confidence increases further into the weekend, with a better chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of the state.

While the first half of the week will provide favorable weather for outdoor activities, residents should prepare for hotter afternoons by staying hydrated, limiting strenuous outdoor work during peak heating hours, and monitoring forecasts if weekend plans include hiking, camping, or other outdoor events.

Forecasters will continue refining the timing and coverage of weekend thunderstorms over the next several days.
