Little Rock, AR – Arkansas will see a mix of scattered showers and building summer heat over the next several days, with rain chances decreasing late in the week as temperatures trend back toward the upper 90s.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the next five days will begin with scattered showers and thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing the best opportunity for rainfall across much of the state. While not every community will see rain, periods of thunderstorms could briefly produce heavy downpours and lightning.
Communities including Little Rock, Fort Smith, Fayetteville, Jonesboro, Pine Bluff, Hot Springs, Russellville, Texarkana, Harrison, and Monticello are expected to experience highs generally in the upper 80s to lower 90s through midweek.
Beginning Thursday, rain chances will steadily diminish as a hotter and drier weather pattern takes hold. By Friday and into the weekend, afternoon temperatures are expected to climb into the mid to upper 90s, with a few locations approaching 100 degrees, especially across central and southern Arkansas. Warm overnight lows in the 70s will provide limited relief.
The combination of increasing heat and humidity will make outdoor conditions more uncomfortable heading into the weekend. Residents planning outdoor activities are encouraged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the afternoon.
Forecasters will continue monitoring any isolated storm chances early in the week, but the primary weather story by the weekend will shift to building heat across the Natural State.
