Charleston, W.Va. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are set to impact much of West Virginia through Tuesday night, bringing potential travel disruptions and localized flooding to lowland areas, particularly in and around Charleston and Huntington.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a lingering disturbance will keep rounds of rain and isolated thunderstorms moving across the state through Tuesday evening. Winds could gust up to 8 mph in the valleys, with mountain temperatures holding in the 40s to low 60s, while lowland areas reach into the upper 60s.

Tuesday will bring a higher chance of thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and early evening. Commuters should be prepared for reduced visibility and slick roads on I-64 and Route 119. Rain chances drop sharply by late Tuesday as drier air begins to filter in, setting up a mostly cloudy and calm Wednesday statewide.

Showers are expected to return Thursday and Friday, as another active weather pattern builds. Areas from Parkersburg to Beckley may see repeated showers, with minor flooding possible on already saturated ground. Temperatures will remain seasonable, ranging from the 50s in the mountains to mid-70s in the lowlands.

Rain threats ease temporarily midweek, but residents should monitor for updated advisories ahead of Thursday’s storms.
